Replay: KRBN Volatility: A Tale of Two Carbon Policies Tuesday, March 5, 2024 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EST
Recent market movement in the KraneShares Global Carbon Strategy ETF (KRBN) is a tale of two carbon policies. Directly following the Russian invasion of Ukraine two years ago, EU legislators, concerned about the bloc's dependency on Russian natural gas supply, issued REPowerEU, which front-loaded allowances into the market from future auctions. Ironically, the soaring energy prices many feared never materialized. Unseasonably warm weather and a slowing EU economy kept energy demand under control.
As the effects of REPowerEU recede and the EU's ambitious overarching "Fit for 55" emissions reduction plan kicks in, we could see a ratcheting up of carbon prices and a potential return to KRBN's pre-invasion trajectory, especially as tactical short sellers consider an exit.
Join Luke Oliver, KraneShares Head of Climate Investments, and Oktay Kurbanov, Partner at CLIFI, as they delve into the factors driving carbon markets and what to expect looking ahead. In the webinar, we will cover:
- Deep dive on European carbon price action and volatility
- How the supply shift from abundance to scarcity in EUAs could lead to attractive growth potential from current levels
- Updates on North American carbon policy reform and how its supporting the KraneShares California Carbon Allowance Strategy ETF (KCCA)
- Outlook for the coming months
- Comprehensive Q&A
